During the Blue Jays game on Saturday, Reese Olson sustained an injury.
A number of roster changes have been made by the Detroit Tigers, including the regrettable announcement about right-hander Reese Olson. Olson’s right shoulder issue has put him on the team’s 15-day injured list, which will be a big blow to the pitching staff as the season progresses.
The Effect of Reese Olson’s Injuries
Due to a strained right shoulder, Reese Olson had to leave his start against the Blue Jays after just two innings on Saturday. Olson allowed just two singles and one walk in his two shutout innings while stranding runners on double-play grounders. Before being replaced in the third inning by right-hander Alex Faedo, he fired 30 pitches, 16 of which were for strikes. After defeating the Chicago White Sox on June 23 and winning Cincinnati and Cleveland prior to the All-Star break, Olson was going for his fourth straight victory.
Olson, 24, started the season 0–5 in his first nine starts but has since made tremendous progress. In his second major league season with the Tigers, he had a 4-8 record with a 3.30 ERA after 18 starts when he landed in Toronto. For Olson and the Tigers, this injury represents a major setback as they navigate the rest of the season.
Extra Roster Changes
Along with Olson’s injury, the Tigers also declared a few other roster changes. After yesterday’s game, Olson was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder strain, and the organization optioned INF/OF Ryan Vilade to Triple-A Toledo. The Tigers recalled LHP Easton Lucas from Triple-A Toledo and picked INF/OF Bligh Madris from Triple-A Toledo in order to strengthen their lineup and pitching staff. The organization also moved OF Kerry Carpenter to the 60-day disabled list in order to create space for Madris on the 40-man roster.

Forecasts
The Guardians are ahead because of their recent performance, and Gavin Williams is hoping to make up for his defeat against the San Diego Padres. But as evidenced by their first series victory, the Detroit Tigers can play spoiler, which makes them a good underdog choice. A punt on the Tigers would be a wise decision given how closely the two previous games were decided.
Further
This matchup’s intrigue stems from a number of factors. Steven Kwan has been playing well for the Guardians, consistently racking up hits and home runs. Kerry Carpenter, who has demonstrated the ability to hit for power, and Matt Vierling, who has doubled frequently in recent day games, are the Tigers players to keep an eye on. This game is essential to sustaining competitive momentum because both teams will be trying to establish dominance in the AL Central.
Expect a fiercely contested game where both teams want to close out the series well. Key performances could determine the result. Check out the Detroit Tigers page for in-depth previews and more information.
