The Kentucky Wildcats are still seeking for players through the transfer portal as Mark Pope seeks to fill his first roster.
Things are starting to move in the right direction, as Coach Pope begins to bring players in for visits.
Aidan Mahaney, a former Saint Mary’s star guard, has made plans to visit Lexington. The 6’3 guard led the Gales in scoring last season and will visit Lexington this weekend.
Mahaney averaged 13.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists a game this season for the WCC Gales, shooting 38.6% from the field and 35.5% from three.
Mahaney is an excellent shooter who can hit more than 35.5% from deep in Coach Pope’s offence. The significance of Mahaney scheduling a visit to Lexington cannot be overstated. Setting up a visit indicates that there is actual smoke behind the skilled guard’s relocation to Lexington.
Step one is bringing a player to campus for a visit, which Coach Pope has done. The next stage will be to sell him a vision while he is on campus this weekend. We shall learn how good of a recruiter Coach Pope is based on how many players he brings to campus for a visit.
It appears that the Wildcats have a strong chance of acquiring Mahaney, therefore this is a name that Big Blue Nation should remember as Coach Pope finalises the 2024-25 squad.
