Denard Robinson, Michigan’s assistant director of player personnel, was detained on Monday morning for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) following a single-car accident. This is the football program’s second OWI arrest, following former defensive line coach Greg Scruggs’ arrest on March 16 for a similar infraction. Scruggs later resigned from his post at Michigan, while Robinson is suspended indefinitely as the matter unfolds.

Michigan’s head coach, Sherrone Moore, issued a statement about the event on Monday:

Robinson, a legendary quarterback during his playing career in Ann Arbor, joined the University of Michigan coaching staff in 2022 under Jim Harbaugh. When coach Harbaugh accepted the job as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers this summer, Moore elected to keep Robinson on as a staff member.

Coach Moore has been forced to perform damage control more frequently than he would like in his short tenure as head coach of the Michigan program, first with the Scruggs incident and now with this. Robinson’s future involvement in the program is currently unknown. “We are aware of the incident involving Denard Robinson and have suspended him indefinitely,” Moore stated in a statement. “We will continue to watch the issue and will have no further comment.
