Less than a week after suffering an unexpected loss at Indian Wells, top-ranked Novak Djokovic announced on social media that he would be skipping the Miami Open. Djokovic lost to unfancied Luca Nardi 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 on Monday in the BNP Paribas Open third round. “At this stage of my career, I’m balancing my private and professional schedule. I’m sorry that I won’t experience some of the best and most passionate fans in the world,” Djokovic wrote.

Italian qualified for the main draw as a “lucky loser,” a player who fell short at the last hurdle in qualifying but was able to replace an injured player who had to withdraw before the first round.

The 36-year-old Djokovic has won the Miami Open six times. On March 20, the men’s hardcourt competition gets underway.

Despite being 8-2 on the season, Djokovic, a record 24-time Grand Slam winner, has not yet claimed a trophy in 2024.
