The  Pittsburgh Steelers parted ways with wide receiver Allen Robinson II and cornerback Patrick Peterson on Friday, making major personnel adjustments ahead of the approaching free agency season.

Eight-time Pro Bowler Peterson signed a two-year contract with the Steelers in March of last year. But because he was scheduled to get a nearly $3 million roster bonus the next week, the team decided to cut him loose.

Peterson, who is 33 years old, made two interceptions and 42 tackles for the Steelers last season to help the defense. Additionally, he served as a mentor to rookie Joey Porter Jr. Peterson showed his versatility by switching from safety to cornerback at the end of the season, giving the secondary depth in the face of injuries.

Robinson had a quiet season with the Steelers after being acquired via trade from the Los Angeles Rams in April. He failed to score a touchdown and only managed 34 receptions for 280 yards—a career-low amount of yardage. The Steelers will save $10 million in salary cap space as a result of his dismissal.

The Steelers re-signed backup defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko, who played most of last season on the practice squad, in addition to making roster cuts.
