Taylor Adams, a recruit from Sydney, will miss the opening game
Adams, who made an unexpected transfer from the Magpies during the trade window, looked good in his maiden game for the Swans last Thursday against Brisbane in the preseason.
But in the third quarter, the 30-year-old was taken on the ice after suffering a left knee injury from the Lions’ Cam Rayner tackle.
Officials from Sydney were hoping that Adams will be cleared to play in Thursday night’s season opener at the SCG against Melbourne.
But the devastation was more extensive than anticipated.
The team released a statement on Saturday saying, “Taylor Adams had scans last night which confirmed medial ligament strain in his left knee which he suffered in the game against Brisbane.”
“He is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.”
Adams played in Collingwood’s 2018 grand final loss and spent ten years there, but he suffered more heartache when a hamstring injury prevented him from winning the trophy the previous year.
Then, shocking everyone in the AFL with a trade request, the 206-game veteran moved to Sydney in pursuit of more midfield playing time.
Adams might make his Swans debut against West Coast next month, but he will miss matches against Melbourne, Collingwood, Essendon, and possibly Richmond.
He won’t be able to play the Magpies until at least round 22.
Veteran Luke Parker of Sydney is also anticipated to miss roughly a month of play due to surgery for a broken arm.
