The Northern Ireland international has been a prolific scorer since his addition to Bolton from Accrington Stanley in January 2022, scoring eight times in his first half-season with Wanderers and then netting 17 league goals in 2022-23 as they reached the play-off semi-finals.

The former Accrington forward attracted reported interest last summer, with TEAMtalk claiming Stoke City and Watford were keeping a close eye on the Northern Irish forward. Whilst, according to The Bolton News, both Swansea City and Hull City have been keeping a close eye on Charles.

Charles has a contract with the club until 2026 but his stock will be at an all-time high if his goals can fire Bolton to promotion this season. They will no doubt be desperate to hold onto him, but that might prove to be difficult if some bigger Championship clubs come calling, and particularly those that can offer sizeable wages.

Despite being one of the star players in Evatt’s side, talk of Charles heading for the exit emerged again during the January window, with the Bolton News reporting the club’s valuation was in the region of £5million.

However, like any manager, Evatt will want to make sure his squad is as strong as it can be, irrespective of which league they are in next season, and that will include keeping their best players, and their star forward definitely fits into that category.

With some players out of contract and interest in their top scorer likely to be reignited once the season ends, several players are likely to leave Bolton ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. We take a look at two who could follow Charles out of the exit door, here
