The Vols caused havoc in the third inning once more. With two errors made by the Albany defense, UT was able to score five runs and accumulate four of its seven hits in the bottom of the third.
Tennessee scored one run in each of the first and second innings. Christian Moore singled and then knocked a 3-1 pitch into the gap in left field. Moore appears to be finding his groove at the three hole.
In his first career start of the season, AJ Russell, who received the final Friday-night start, went three innings, giving up three hits, zero runs, one walk, and four strikeouts.
Billy Amick retrieved a grounder, gave it to Moore for force at second, and Moore made the throw to first to pick up the swift Albany baserunner. In the first, Moore received some help from his infield defense.
In order to avoid two consecutive one-out singles, Russell struck out the first batter in the second inning. He then used a ground ball to second to close the top half of the inning.
In the bottom of the second, Dean Curly singled to center with two outs and a full count, but Reed Chapman flied out to left, saving Albany from scoring any runs.
The Vols scored their first run on a first pitch, moved to second on a wild pitch, and then scored again on a base hit to right by Cal Stark. Dylan Dreiling, who was already third on the team in batting average, moved up to third after hitting a base knock up the middle on the first pitch he saw.
Kavares Tears singled to right, another opposite-field hit, and pushed Dreiling to third after Cmo scored on a 3-0 pitch and flew out.
Tears advanced to third and Dreiling was scored off Billy Amick’s single to short. After Blake Burke was given a four-pitch walk, the Vols’ half inning was saved by Albany’s defense.
A throwing error by the first baseman put Curly on first, moving Burke to third and allowing him to score on another error. Tears and Amick both scored on defense.
