Tonight, February 18, marks the launch of the latest season of American Idol. Still, vocalists from all throughout the nation have already taken the stage for their initial auditions. With Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan, 15-year-old Triston Harper of McIntosh, Alabama, shared his moving narrative and a stunning performance of Jason Isbell’s “Cover Me Up.”Before Harper sang, the judges asked him to share a little bit about himself. With a heavy Alabama drawl, he remarked, “I grew up in a small town and I’ve been through a lot in my life.” “A lot” was an understatement as the pre-recorded film showcasing the young singer’s journey aired.

Triston Harper Tells the American Idol Judges About His Experience
He claimed to have spent practically his whole life in McIntosh, Alabama, and that he wouldn’t swap the little community for anything. He answered honestly when asked if it was enjoyable to grow up there. “You experience highs and lows. I have, at least,” he retorted. My mom and my stepdad were together by the time I was eleven.He went on to add that sleeping on an Arkansas pavement with his mother while they were homeless was the lowest time of his life. They then gave his granddad a call, and he arrived to pick them up. Harper and his mother are now back in their hometown, where they are embraced by their relatives and the tight-knit Choctaw tribal society.

He remarked in the video, “My mama wanted us to be someone.” “I got into music for that reason,” he continued.

It would be an understatement to say that the young man’s talent impressed the American Idol judges. Perry praised the singer, saying, “You were so genuine, so in touch with yourself, singing from your soul.” Although it wasn’t flawless, I could relate to it. It truly wasBryan offered his thoughts on a few of Harper’s technical delivery flaws. “You’re just fifteen, therefore everything you’re doing technically is because of that. I could spend an afternoon with you and tell you to stop doing it. Like, “Don’t do those two things,” and dude,” he uttered before faltering.

Ultimately, he received “Yes” votes from all three judges and was sent to Hollywood. In the upcoming weeks, Harper is someone to keep an eye on.
