Notre Dame is easily defeated by No. 9 Duke.

On Wednesday night in Durham, North Carolina, No. 9 Duke defeated visiting Notre Dame 71-53, with rookie Caleb Foster coming off the bench to score 13 points and the team controlling the game for the most part.

For Duke (17-5, 8-3 ACC), which is now ranked third in the league, Tyrese Proctor scored nine points, Mark Mitchell finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals.Just four nights after losing to rival North Carolina in a Top 10 match, the Blue Devils were fired up. Following the break, Duke’s defense completed the task, limiting the Irish to 16 points in the first 12 minutes of the second half.

With more than eight minutes remaining, Duke progressively increased their lead to 18 points. Foster remained the lone Duke player with double-digit points with three minutes remaining.

Despite shooting just 33.9 percent from the floor, Notre Dame (7-16, 2-10), which has lost seven straight games, had 13 points from Braeden Shrewsberry and 19 points from Markus Burton.

While Duke only made 4 out of 18 3-pointers, Notre Dame only made 7 out of 27. Shrewsberry and Burton both made threes from deep.

Duke led 33–25 at the half, but that looked small given Notre Dame’s 31 percent shooting from the field up to that moment. Foster finished with nine points as Duke led by as much as fifteen points at the half.

Kyle Filipowski of Duke started the second half with five points in just over five minutes after failing to score in the first. In the end, he had nine rebounds and eight points.

Duke jumped out to a 17-0 lead early in the game to take a 20-5 lead. At one point, Notre Dame had committed six turnovers and three field goals in a span of 8 1/2 minutes without scoring a point.

In South Bend, Indiana, last month, Duke also triumphed over Notre Dame, winning 67-59.
