Cardinals Received Good News Today

Today, the Cardinals got some good news. Pittsburgh Kelvin Beachum, a former offensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has committed to an agreement with the Arizona Cardinals, securing his position on their offensive line.

With 179 appearances and 161 starts, Beachum has enjoyed a lengthy and consistent NFL career. He participated in 44 games during his tenure with the Steelers, starting 39 of them.

Pittsburgh selected Beachum, an SMU alumnus, in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Before becoming a free agent in 2016, he played with the team for four seasons.

Before joining the Cardinals in 2020, Beachum had short spells with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2016) and the New York Jets (2017–2019). Since then, Arizona has valued his knowledge and versatility and signed him to a number of short-term contracts.

Beachum’s choice to remain with the Cardinals impacts the Steelers, who are searching for veteran depth on their offensive line. His leadership and experience could have helped stabilize Pittsburgh’s young unit, where inexperience might lead to discipline concerns.

However, questions about Beachum’s size have persisted since his college Pro Day, and at 35 years old, his age is another consideration. While he may not be a long-term answer, his return to Arizona provides valuable stability for their offensive line.

The signing of Simi Fehoko, a free agency wide receiver, was just announced by the Arizona Cardinals.

The team’s press release states:

“A four-year NFL veteran, Fehoko (6-4, 218) has made 24 appearances, including two starts, and has 10 receptions for 139 yards and one score. He recorded six receptions for 106 yards in a career-high eight games (two starts) with the Chargers last season.

After graduating from Stanford, the 27-year-old was first selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round (179th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft. Before joining the Chargers in 2023–24, he played in 14 games (two starts) with Dallas for two seasons (2021–22). He recorded three special teams tackles and seven receptions for 115 yards and a score.

Fehoko is anticipated to give Arizona depth at wide receiver, since Zay Jones, Michael Wilson, and Marvin Harrison Jr. are probably ahead of him on the depth chart. Fehoko’s position on the roster may be further impacted by the Cardinals’ tender of restricted free agent Greg Dortch.

Fehoko’s expertise on special teams is one of his advantages; he participated in 38% of the Chargers’ special teams snaps the previous season, which can help him earn a position on the roster.

The Cardinals signed a number of outside free agents this offseason, including Josh Sweat, Dalvin Tomlinson, Mykal Walker, Jake Curhan, Jacoby Brissett, and Akeem Davis-Gaither. Fehoko is the latest to join this group.

Evan Brown, Baron Browning, Kelvin Beachum, Aaron Brewer, Joey Blount, and L.J. Collier are among the important players that Arizona has kept on board.
