Carson Beck’s Sudden Departure From Georgia: The Bulldogs secure a 3,995-yard QB as his replacement, thanks to HC Kirby Smart.
The Georgia Bulldogs are making changes at quarterback, and it looks like head coach Kirby Smart may include another veteran in the race for the upcoming year. Through the college football transfer portal, the Miami Hurricanes acquired starting quarterback Carson Beck from the Dawgs.
The quarterback had previously declared his intention to enter the 2025 NFL Draft; thus, Beck’s move to the portal was unexpected. Instead, Beck joins a Miami program that is considered to be among the few college football programs that could fight for the championship in 2025, possibly facing Georgia.
Jaden Rashada, a former highly regarded signal-caller, is also expected to access the transfer portal. Gunner Stockton might be the team’s long-term answer to the quarterback position, but it would be prudent for the program to introduce some competition this offseason.
In addition, the Bulldogs signed four-star recruit Ryan Montgomery in the 2025 class and have Ryan Puglisi on the roster. Georgia and the Florida Gators, its SEC opponent, now seem to be engaged in a transfer portal competition for a quarterback.
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is actively seeking a replacement for quarterback Carson Beck.
According to Pete Nakos of On3.com, both Georgia and Florida have shown interest in Buffalo Bulls quarterback C.J. Ogbonna.
“On3 has learned that Florida and Georgia have reached out to a transfer quarterback,” Nakos reported on Monday. “The Bulldogs and Gators have expressed interest in Buffalo quarterback C.J. Ogbonna since he entered the transfer portal last week,” Ogbonna’s agent, Bryan Miller, shared with On3.

This season, the starting quarterback for the Bulls passed for 2,381 yards and 19 touchdowns. In addition, he ran for eight touchdowns and 343 yards. He is a former transfer from Southeast Missouri State who has passed for 3,995 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions in his career.
The quarterback is not certain to be the team’s starting quarterback, but he might be a contender if the Dawgs are successful in acquiring Ogbonna. Wheeler High School in Marietta, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta just a short drive from Athens, is where Ogbonna graduated.
Ogbonna completed 56.5% of his throws during the 2024 season, throwing for 2,381 yards, 19 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Ogbonna’s legs are also a menace; in 2024, he added 343 running yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.
