According to a recent fake trade between the two teams, the Philadelphia Phillies may give the Milwaukee Brewers a back rub in return. Bullpen skill is needed by the Phillies. Alec Bohm, an All-Star third baseman, is another player that Philadelphia is actively trying to cut.

Devin Williams is a better closer that the Brewers own after purchasing him this offseason. The fact that talented third baseman Willy Adames may leave Milwaukee this autumn or next winter is another reality the team must deal with.

All things considered, the conditions are favorable for both sides to reach a mutually beneficial agreement. In exchange for Bohm, Jim Bowden of The Athletic crafted a trade that sends Williams and a prospect to the Phillies (via SI with Patrick McAvoy of the Milwaukee Brewers):

“I think this deal makes a lot of sense for the Phillies, especially if they could turn around and sign either Alex Bregman or Willy Adames to replace Bohm at the hot corner,” Bowden stated. “The Phillies need an elite, right-handed, high-leverage closer.” Aidan Miller, a Phillies prospect, won’t be ready to play third in the major leagues until at least 2026 or 2027, in my opinion.

“From the Brewers’ point of view, I also like this trade because Bohm would take Adames’ place at third base and free up Ortiz to play shortstop, with Brice Turang still at second.”

Williams & Bohm would fill both teams’ respective needs

The National League Reliever of the Year award has been given to Williams twice. Despite playing in just 22 games in 2024, the 30-year-old recorded an impressive 1.25 ERA and 0.969 WHIP, 38 strikeouts, and 14 saves during the season. Had he participated in 61 games and seen as many save opportunities as he did in 2023, he would have been on track to record a career-high 38 saves.

In the meantime, Bohm’s blazing hitting at the plate earned him a spot on the 2024 All-Star team for the first time. During the previous season, the Nebraska native hit 15 home runs and 97 RBIs while slashing an impressive.280/.332/.448.

For the Phillies to improve their chances of winning a World Series the next season, Williams would be a top-shelf closer. In exchange, the Brewers would inherit a bright and rising player in the league who may overcome his infamous 2024 second-half slump with the National League contenders. In a trade this size, Philadelphia would emerge victorious.
