After Hampus Lindholm left the game late in the first period, the Boston Bruins had to play the last two periods of their comeback victory over the St. Louis Blues without a defenseman.
In an interview with media following practice on Wednesday, Jim Montgomery provided insight on Lindholm’s prognosis.
According to audio from the team, Montgomery stated, “Hampus is a lower-body injury.” “It will take weeks. The word “weeks” is plural.
After deflecting Blues defenseman Justin Faulk’s shot and stepping off the rink, Lindholm collapsed to the ice. He didn’t start the second period on the bench, and the Bruins quickly declared him out for the remainder of the game due to a lower-body injury.
After taking a hard hit to the boards during the Bruins’ shutout loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs last week, Andrew Peeke is also sidelined due to his own injury. Peeke is regarded as weekly as well.
Before Boston’s game against the Stars in Dallas, the Bruins, lacking two defenders, called up Jordan Oesterle from AHL-Providence.
Although Oesterle’s recall is entirely up to general manager Don Sweeney, Montgomery stated that Providence is in contact with the coaching staff and that the Bruins bench boss was impressed with the seasoned blueliner during training camp.
He is a superb skater in every way, according to Montgomery, who also praised his mobility. “… His brain comes next. He is a very intelligent hockey player who excels at breaking the puck out during transitions.
Mason Lohrei took over at the point on the second unit, and Charlie McAvoy returned to the top power-play unit after Lindholm was dropped from the starting lineup.
Regarding Lohrei being the only defenseman on the power play, Montgomery remarked, “Very comfortable with where he’s done it before.” He seems to be really at ease when he’s on the second unit, in my opinion. He performs admirably for us.
The Bruins wish to acquire two forwards in the top six: “Keep an eye out.”
The Boston Bruins are rumored to be getting ready for a major roster change, according to sources. Bruins general manager Don Sweeney is actively looking for new players to bolster Boston’s scoring, an NHL executive told Jimmy Murphy of RG.com. According to reports, the Bruins are primarily looking to recruit a top-6 winger and maybe a top-6 center. The executive informed RG that “he is looking for help, make no mistake about it.”
Given the team’s early-season struggles—they have only scored 43 goals in 17 games, the ninth-fewest in the NHL—the executive underlined that Sweeney is negotiating deals that might give the team much-needed scoring boost.

A good 1B option could be within reach to supplement the current lineup, even though a real No. 1 center might be difficult to find, if only because those players aren’t typically available in the trade market. The executive’s remarks coincide with the Bruins going through a difficult time. The Bruins defeated the St. Louis Blues 3-2 on Tuesday after suffering a heartbreaking 3–2 overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, losing 12-0 in the third period.
Murphy’s report suggests that the Bruins might soon pursue Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras, along with other players.
“Several sources confirmed to RG late last week that one of the teams Sweeney was in discussions with was the Columbus Blue Jackets,” Murphy reported. Additionally, an NHL source mentioned that the Bruins had also reached out to the Anaheim Ducks and the Utah Hockey Club. “Regarding Anaheim, one player who appears to be on the move again is forward Trevor Zegras.”
As Murphy notes, Zegras (3 points in 14 games this season) was a student at Boston University, so if the Bruins are able to acquire the struggling winger, there may be a connection between the player and the city that may be revived.
