The Cleveland Browns have faced ongoing health challenges with their offensive linemen this season, highlighted by their inability to use the same starting lineup they had last year.
Notably, the team has yet to start its expected 2024 lineup—guards Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller, tackles Jedrick Wills and Jack Conklin, and center Ethan Pocic—due to factors other than health.
Wills, who had been the team’s starting left tackle for the majority of the previous four seasons, was intimately involved in the decision to skip the October game against Baltimore, according to an exclusive report revealed by Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot on X.
On Monday, Cabot disclosed that head coach Kevin Stefanski might have had an additional justification for leaving one player out of that lineup.
Wills himself made a “business decision” to skip the game against the Baltimore Ravens, which he believes cost him a starting position the following week, the Browns insider revealed on X.
According to Cabot, “Browns left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. stated on Monday that he’made a business decision’ to skip the Ravens game on October 27 due to injury, and Dawand Jones took his place at left tackle the following week.”
According to Cabot’s report, Wills feels that his choice to take a break has cost him his starting position.
Wills’ voice is the only one fans have heard about this issue because Stefanski has not openly addressed it in his news appearances.
Against the Ravens and the Chargers, Jones, a second-year player who has started the majority of his games over the previous two seasons, was selected as the starting quarterback.
Regarding Wills’ participation in the team’s game against the New Orleans Saints this week, no decision has been made.
