Head coach Billy Napier gave the Florida football program some positive news on DJ Lagway, a rookie quarterback.
According to Graham Hall of 247Sports, Napier stated, “The good news is we have positive information on that front.” “We do believe there is a path for recovery and a return, and we do believe the injury is less severe.”
The crowd went into astonishment when Lagway was taken off after suffering an injury. The Gators’ chances of contending with the best SEC teams were essentially destroyed by another injury.
Throughout the season, even starting quarterback Graham Mertz has struggled with injuries. In addition, defensive lineman Jamari Lyons and wide receiver Kahleil Jackson have missed the entire season because of ankle and ACL injuries, respectively.
Lagway has shown great promise as the quarterback of the future for Florida football. His self-assurance and dual-threat capability gave the Gator Nation optimism. His passing total in the victory over Kentucky was 254 yards. Considering that it was his second time playing important snaps, his deep ball looked outstanding.
Would Billy Napier’s position with Florida football be saved by DJ Lagway?
Whatever the case, Florida football has had a disappointing season. Napier is always on the hot seat as they sit at 4-4. There were rumors that Lane Kiffin, the head coach at Ole Miss, would take Billy Napier’s place at Florida. Given that this is Jaxson Dart’s last year, Kiffin might wish to collaborate with Lagway. Whatever the rumors, Lagway could end up in the flames.
He’ll have his hands full if he is. Florida will play three straight top-25 teams. But in Neyland Stadium, Lagway performed admirably against Tennessee. In addition, he had his best performance against Kentucky. Games could be a developmental opportunity if they have little significance for the program.
It’s difficult to play against the best SEC teams, particularly given Florida’s schedule. Nevertheless, with Lagway at center, Napier could demonstrate that he has a superstar on his hands.
