Running back David Montgomery of the Detroit Lions has agreed to a contract extension that would keep him with the team through the 2027 campaign, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The three-year, $18 million contract he initially signed prior to the 2023 season is extended by two years with this one.

Alongside second-year sensation Jahmyr Gibbs, Montgomery forms a potent running back tandem that has been a vital component of the Lions’ offense. The new agreement is reportedly valued $18.25 million, with $10.5 million guaranteed. Montgomery’s position as a vital component of the Lions’ ground game is cemented for years to come with the agreement.

Montgomery has been a workhorse since coming to Detroit, amassing 1,286 running yards and 17 rushing touchdowns. Last season, he finished with 1,015 running yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns, surpassing the 1,000-yard threshold. With this agreement, Gibbs and Montgomery should be the Lions’ potent duo for a very long time.

All that A.J. Hinch and Tarik Skubal spoke following the horrifying ALDS defeat

The Cleveland Guardians, led by Lane Thomas, put an end to the Detroit Tigers’ incredible, unlikely comeback run in the second half. What was once an enjoyable and thrilling underdog tale has abruptly disappeared.

In Game 5, Detroit made a valiant effort, fielding their ace and likely American League Cy Young winner, Tarik Skubal. Unfortunately, the left-hander allowed five earned runs, including Taylor’s first-ever grand slam allowed in his career.

For the first time since 2016, the Guardians will be participating in the ALCS. In the meantime, “The Gritty Tigs” experience a disastrous end to their 2024 postseason campaign. Nonetheless, Detroit can take pride in the team’s incredible perseverance and determination to get this far.

After the painful defeat and elimination, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch gave media a tour and said he was certain his team would grow from it. He thinks their present emotions will motivate them. In addition, Skubal spoke with the media, expressing his regret without being overly critical of himself and demonstrating respect for Thomas (as well as the Guardians).

Hinch said, “I have a heartbroken team for all the right reasons,” according to MLive Media Group’s Evan Woodberry. “We played with everything we had against a very strong [Guardians] squad. I sincerely appreciate being their boss, and I thanked them for everything.”

Even while the public had doubts, Hinch continued, the Tigers as a team “never flinched.” Furthermore, he said that Detroit’s early elimination from the playoffs would “fuel [the group] moving forward.”

Skubal believes that one hanging sinker proved expensive for both him and the Tigers, but he gives Thomas credit for seizing the chance.

Skubal stated, “It was one pitch,” as reported by ESPN. “I wish I could get it back. But Thomas, what a swing!”

Skubal acknowledged that his error will hurt and follow him for the next few days, and he says that’s to be expected. Nevertheless, it will make him feel even more determined to keep getting better.

Skubal says, “It’ll suck, and it should suck,” according to Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic. However, this will only motivate me to work on improving upon who I am. I’ll simply make sure to remind myself of this feeling I’m experiencing right now on the days in the offseason when things become a little tough.”
