Jacoby Brissett is still the starting quarterback for the Patriots, according to head coach Jerod Mayo, even though rookie quarterback Drake Maye played some snaps toward the end of New England’s crushing Thursday Night Football loss to the New York Jets. Brissett has passed for 368 yards and one touchdown this season, but New England is off to a 1-2 start.

As of right now, I’d say the situation is unchanged. As I previously stated, Jacoby is our starting quarterback, and we need to be prepared to back him up with 11 players on the offensive line. Mayo stated on Friday via ESPN, “It’s everyone.

Maye is a highly respected quarterback from North Carolina. In 30 games with the Tar Heels, he threw for 8,018 yards and 63 touchdowns. During his NFL debut, Maye passed for 22 yards and rushed for 12 yards in his only drive.

“Coming off the bench at that moment is always challenging, especially for a quarterback, but I think he managed it well and tried to put a solid drive together,” Mayo said of Maye. “It’s something to build on.”

Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt believes it’s best for Maye to sit out games for now.

“I still think there’s a lot he can learn by watching,” Van Pelt said. “That’s my stance on it. As Coach mentioned, Jacoby is our starter until further notice, and we need to focus on preparing him to win the game on Sept. 29 in San Francisco.”

Patriots coach Jerod Mayo stated that Jacoby Brissett will remain the starting quarterback “until I say he’s not.”

Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo confirmed that Jacoby Brissett will remain the starting quarterback, despite a tough performance in Thursday night’s 24-3 loss to the New York Jets. “Jacoby is our quarterback until I say he’s not,” Mayo said on Friday. Brissett, who threw for just 98 yards and was sacked five times, was replaced by rookie Drake Maye late in the game.

It marked Maye’s NFL debut after being selected third overall in April’s draft. Brissett, under heavy pressure from a patchwork offensive line, completed 12 of 18 passes but lost 46 yards on sacks. Maye finished 4 of 8 for 22 yards and was sacked twice for a loss of 13 yards.

The Patriots (1-2) now have a nine-day break before facing the 49ers in San Francisco, followed by home games against the Miami Dolphins and Houston Texans. They also have a neutral-site game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, and a rematch with the Jets in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
