According to Keith Smith of Spotrac, the Pistons have signed free agents Devon Higgs, Sam Peek, and Tolu Smith to training camp contracts.

After failing to be selected in the 2023 NBAGL draft, Higgs played in 26 games for the G League’s College Park Skyhawks and Detroit’s NBAGL affiliate, Motor City Cruise, during his rookie campaign. The 6’5′′ guard, who had a shooting line of.451/.340/.517 in the G League, averaged 6.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 20.2 minutes per game. In 2024, he was a member of the Pistons’ Las Vegas Summer League team.

The 6’7′′ forward Peek also played for the Cruise at the end of the previous season before joining the Pistons Summer League squad. After beginning the season with the Wisconsin Herd, he averaged 6.2 PPG, 3.1 RPG, and 1.2 APG in 14 games (19.9 MPG) for Motor City in 2023–2024.

Smith, on the other hand, completed his undergraduate career at Mississippi State and was not selected in June. During his four years with the Bulldogs, the 6’10” forward averaged 14.4 points and 8.0 rebounds in 28.8 minutes per game over 108 games. He played his freshman season for Western Kentucky prior to that.

Smith played with the Pistons in July in Las Vegas, just like Higgs and Peek. With five starts (22.1 MPG), he scored 11.0 PPG and 9.0 RPG, playing a major role in the Summer League.

The three most recent Pistons almost certainly signed Exhibit 10 contracts and will be waived well in advance of the start of the regular season, which will position them to join the Cruise this autumn. If they were to play for Detroit’s G League squad for at least 60 days, they would be qualified for bonuses of up to $77.5K.

With Dereon Seabron and Aaron Estrada, the Pistons have allegedly completed Exhibit 10 deals, bringing their total number of players under contract to 19.
