For the most part of his NFL career, Tom Brady did not have a close relationship with the Dallas Cowboys, but his most recent football experiences are still deeply connected to them.
Brady’s last game as a professional was played in 2023, when Dak Prescott and company defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Wild Card Round (at least at this point). Following that, the seven-time Super Bowl champion called the Cowboys vs. Cleveland Browns game on Fox for his broadcasting debut. He will undoubtedly work additional games with America’s Team in 2024–2025, including Dallas’ home opener against the New Orleans Saints in Week 2.
All of this is to imply that Brady has seen the Cowboys of today rather vividly. Nonetheless, he appears to have a lot of faith in the Jerry Jones-owned team, in contrast to many other experts and analysts.

Are Tom Brady and the Cowboys correct?
It’s quite probable that Brady’s positive evaluation of the Cowboys was motivated by anything else. Fans’ main complaint about his broadcast debut was, after all, that he lacked excitement, and a master of persuasion like the three-time MVP would undoubtedly want to rectify those things as soon as possible. Famous players like Prescott and Parsons have fallen short in pivotal roles, and the franchise is plagued by inexplicable errors on a regular basis. Many predict that the Cowboys will suffer the same fate as long as the team’s core and management structure don’t change. Brady did point out a crucial addition, though, that might have a major impact.
Dallas is hoping that an old acquaintance can help find a solution.
Beginning his second term as Dallas’ defensive coordinator, Mike Zimmer was an assistant on the 1995–1996 Super Bowl squad and held the position from 2000–2006. There is hope that this reunion could be an X–factor this season.
Brady seems to believe that. Maybe this coaching change might help the Cowboys reach their full potential and break their postseason curse if this team is really no worse than the one from last year, which had one of the league’s deepest rosters.
Given how much history still lies ahead of us, most people are naturally reluctant to get on the hype train. But when the greatest quarterback and champion in sports history explains why this might actually be the year Dallas arrives safely at the station, well, that train does seem a bit less likely to derail.
But whether Brady the broadcaster is as astute as Brady the player is still to be seen. When the Cowboys host the Saints on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, he will attempt to demonstrate as much.
