Quarterback Justin Fields, formerly the No. 11 overall pick, was acquired by the Pittsburgh Steelers from the Chicago Bears in March in exchange for a conditional sixth-round pick.

For a quarterback selected so highly just three seasons prior, that was a minor cost. The quarterback was transferred to Steel City by the Bears after they gave up on him.

According to Windy City Gridiron’s Bill Zimmerman, a bears source, coach Matt Eberflus ultimately “didn’t trust” the former Ohio State standout.

“There are many people, both within the media and outside of it, who think that Eberflus made several questionable decisions because he didn’t have confidence in Justin Fields to make the right choices with the football,” Zimmerman wrote.

Honestly, this information gives us hope that Justin Fields will eventually play for a team that believes in his on-field abilities. However, as the Steelers gear up for the regular season, we’re still a bit far from that reality, especially since Fields is currently the backup (unless the potential “Fields Package” to evaluate Russell Wilson comes into play). Sometimes, all it takes is a change of environment to kickstart a player’s struggling career.
