Small Papa works as a Texas Ranger.
According to social media tweets by the Boston Red Sox great David Ortiz and a report from ESPN.com Dominican Republic correspondent Héctor Gómez, the Rangers have signed “Big Papi,” Ortiz’s son.
Along with the Rangers’ assistant director of international scouting, Jonny Clum, the elder Ortiz shared images and a video of his son signing and donning a jersey and cap at the team’s Boca Chica facilities in the Dominican Republic on social media on Wednesday.
In the social media video, “Viva Lad Vida” by Coldplay, which means “long live life” or “live life,” plays as Ortiz Jr. puts on the Texas jersey.
Instagram users saw Ortiz Sr. thanking the Rangers.
“Thank you for the chance, @rangers. “Love you kid, let’s build a big leaguer @davidortizjr19,” he wrote on social media.
Ortiz remarked, “That boy is a clone of me, the one who looks most like me.” “That youngster turned into a criminal with a bat in just a year after he put in a lot of work at a development complex.”
According to Perfect Game, Ortiz Jr., 17, is enrolled at Saint George in Santo Domingo as a member of the Class of 2025.

The minor league affiliates of the Boston Red Sox went 16-8 last week, outscoring their opponents 152-138 overall. The Worcester Red Sox, the Triple-A affiliate, were outscored 44–39 and split their series 3–3. The Single-A Salem Red Sox, High-A Greenville Drive, and Double-A Portland Sea Dogs all prevailed in their respective series. Greenville went 4-2 and dominated their opponent 53-39; Salem also went 4-2 but lost 29-23; Portland went 5-1 and outscored their opponent 37-26. Two prospects who were playing in the South Atlantic League in Greenville had outstanding performances that earned them Player of the Week awards. Yordanny Monegro was this week’s pitcher, and Mikey Romero was this week’s hitter.
Romero saw action in five games, recording a 12–25 line, two doubles, three home runs, eleven RBI, five runs scored, and one walk. He had at least two hits in each game. He has played in 50 games for Greenville and is hitting.281 with an.858 OPS this season with 10 doubles, 4 triples, 10 home runs, 36 RBI, 36 runs scored, 12 walks, and 1 stolen base. This season, he is hitting.289 with a.866 OPS with ten doubles, 37 RBI, 39 runs scored, and one stolen base.

Romero attended Orange Lutheran High School in Orange, California, and was selected by the Red Sox in the first round of the 2022 MLB Draft. In 19 games during his rookie season, he hit.304 with an OPS of.874 for the Red Sox rookie league squad at Single-A Salem. He also had seven doubles, three triples, one home run, 17 RBI, 11 runs scored, two stolen bases, and eight walks. He participated in 34 games last season, hitting.214 with a.579 OPS while playing in rookie ball, Single-A Salem, and High-A Greenville. He also had two triples, five doubles, 13 RBI, 15 runs scored, two stolen bases, and 14 walks.
Career of Yordanny Monegro
Being an international free agent, Montenegro was signed. In2021, he made his Red Sox debut. In the Dominican Summer League, he made 13 starts and went 0-1 with a 3.63 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, 5.7 BB/9, and 9.3 K/9 in 39.2 innings. He pitched for the Red Sox rookie league team in 2022, appearing in nine games (six of which were starts) and went 1-2 in 25.2 innings with a 7.36 ERA, 1.87 WHIP, 4.9 BB/9, and 8.4 K/9.
In the previous campaign, he pitched at rookie level once more, Single-A Salem, and High-A Greenville. He made 14 appearances, 13 of which were starts, and finished 6-3 in 65.2 innings with a 2.06 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9, and 12.7 K/9.
