Former Eagles Coach Secures Surprising New Role for 2025 Season. The Philadelphia Eagles underwent significant changes to their coaching staff this offseason. The most notable moves included promoting Kevin Patullo to offensive coordinator and hiring Parks Frazier as the new passing game coordinator. Meanwhile, a former member of the Eagles’ Super Bowl-winning coaching staff from 2017 has secured a new role.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Stanford University is hiring Frank Reich, the Eagles’ former offensive coordinator, as their interim head coach for 2025. This marks Reich’s first return to a national coaching position since he was dismissed as head coach of the Carolina Panthers in 2023. Former Eagles Coach Lands Unexpected Job for 2025 Season

Reich, 63, brings 17 years of NFL coaching experience and 13 years as a player. As the Eagles’ offensive coordinator, Reich had a mixed tenure—2016 saw a poor performance, with the offense ranking 24th in passing and 11th in rushing. However, in 2017, the Eagles’ offense significantly improved, ranking 14th in passing and 3rd in rushing, which played a key role in their Super Bowl victory. That success led to his head coaching job with the Indianapolis Colts.

Reich spent five and a half seasons with the Colts, finishing with a 40-33-1 record, and only had one losing season (2019). He was let go midway through the 2022 season with a 3-5-1 record. Afterward, Reich became head coach of the Carolina Panthers in 2023, but was fired after guiding the team to a 1-10 record. Despite the struggles, Reich faced significant challenges with the Panthers’ lack of talent.

Although Reich ended his NFL head coaching career with a losing record of 41-43-1, he still offers valuable experience to Stanford. His hiring could prove to be a wise short-term decision. Regardless of the outcome, Eagles fans will always remember Reich for helping lead the team to their first Super Bowl title. Former Eagles Coach Secures Surprising New Role for 2025 Season.
