Another big announcement. The Buffalo Bills ended the season without a 1,000-yard receiver for the first time in six years. That streak was previously upheld by Stefon Diggs, who, in just four seasons with Buffalo, became the franchise’s fourth all-time leading receiver. However, Diggs was traded to the Houston Texans in the offseason, where his multi-year contract was restructured into a one-year deal.

In his lone season with Houston, Diggs played only eight games before suffering an ACL tear on October 27. Despite the injury, he managed 47 receptions for 496 yards and three touchdowns. At the time of his injury, he ranked seventh in the NFL in receptions. Now a free agent, Diggs appears to be exploring a return to the AFC East, as The Athletic’s Chad Graff reported that he is currently in Foxborough, Massachusetts, meeting with the New England Patriots.

“The Patriots badly need WR help, and Diggs could provide that—even if he may not be ready for Week 1 as he recovers from an ACL tear,” Graff wrote on X. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, this is Diggs’ first free-agent visit.

Diggs has proven his talent throughout his career, especially since leaving the Minnesota Vikings for Buffalo. He earned four consecutive Pro Bowl selections as a Bill and was named First-Team All-Pro in 2020 after leading the league with 127 catches for 1,535 yards. Across his 10-year NFL career, Diggs has amassed 10,491 yards and 70 touchdowns.

However, concerns remain about both his health and locker room presence. Having undergone ACL reconstruction surgery just five months ago, his availability for the start of the season remains uncertain. Additionally, questions linger about how he would mesh with New England’s rookie quarterback, Drake Maye. Another big announcement for the Buffalo Bills.

The Patriots, desperate for receiving talent, are coming off a disappointing 4-13 season in which they ranked last in the NFL in passing yards and second-to-last in passing touchdowns. If Diggs returns to the AFC East, it’s safe to assume the Bills’ defense will be eager for the chance to shut down their former star twice a year.
