Yankees Secure Elite Talent in Blockbuster Trade Proposal.
The New York Yankees will kick off their season on March 27, but they’ll be missing key arms, most notably Gerrit Cole, who is out for the year following surgery. Finding a replacement won’t be easy, as the Yankees have limited options available.
Though their farm system isn’t as deep as it once was, the Yankees still have trade assets. Whether they can land a true ace is uncertain, but they have prospects that could be moved in a significant deal if they’re willing to part with them.
One potential target is Zac Gallen, a right-handed pitcher with Cy Young-caliber talent, whom the Yankees can only hope becomes available.
Deesha Thosar of Fox Sports speculated on the possibility of the Yankees making a move for Gallen, questioning whether the Arizona Diamondbacks would be willing to pay him long-term.
“It’s fair to wonder if the Diamondbacks are prepared to offer Gallen a top-market deal after signing Corbin Burnes to a six-year, $210 million contract. Gallen, 29, is set to hit free agency after this season and could command around $200 million if he performs well,” Thosar wrote.
“If Arizona struggles before the summer, they might seriously consider dealing Gallen at the trade deadline in exchange for a strong prospect package. By then, the Yankees wouldn’t be the only team interested, and the Diamondbacks would need a compelling offer to part with their ace.”
Are the Yankees Considering a Move?
The Yankees are in dire need of pitching, but at this stage of the offseason, their options are limited. While they could explore free agency, there aren’t many impact arms available.
General manager Brian Cashman acknowledged the team’s need for reinforcements but noted that viable options are scarce. Yankees Secure Elite Talent in Blockbuster Trade Proposal.
“We’ll evaluate what’s out there, but at this time of year, very little is available,” Cashman told reporters after the announcement of Cole’s season-ending Tommy John surgery, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. “Typically, the more significant opportunities don’t arise until the Trade Deadline.
“We hope to withstand and avoid injuries early on because making moves outside the organization is much tougher before then. We’ll rely on our current roster while exploring what limited options exist.”
Waiting until the deadline could be risky, but it might also increase the chances of acquiring a pitcher like Gallen.

Yankees May Need to Trade Prospects
At this point, the Yankees may have no choice but to move prospects if they want to acquire a top-tier pitcher.
Cashman acknowledged this reality, also emphasizing the financial aspect of any potential deal.
“We already have major financial commitments,” Cashman said. “The available inventory will be limited, and acquiring players comes at a cost—whether in prospect capital, money, or both.”
Gallen, however, is only set to earn $13.5 million this season before hitting free agency next winter, making him a relatively affordable trade target for now. Yankees Secure Elite Talent in Blockbuster Trade Proposal.
