Spurs' De'Aaron Fox to Miss Rest of Season, Set to Undergo Season-Ending Surgery
Spurs’ De’Aaron Fox to Miss Rest of Season. After the Spurs’ big win over the Mavericks on Wednesday, the excitement didn’t last long—De’Aaron Fox is now out for the season. According to Shams Charania, the star point guard needs surgery to repair tendon damage in his left pinkie. This is yet another tough blow for San Antonio, who had already lost Victor Wembanyama for the year. While the team’s immediate outlook is grim, the long-term future still looks promising with Fox and Wembanyama leading the way.
Some might be surprised that a pinkie injury is enough to shut Fox down, but Charania shed some light on the situation. Apparently, Fox hurt his finger all the way back in training camp—while he was still with the Kings. He played through the pain all season, but now the Spurs have decided to prioritize his recovery.

“Fox suffered the tendon injury during training camp in October and played through the ailment all season,” Charania reported on X (formerly Twitter). “For the Spurs and Fox, the decision to undergo surgery now was made to expedite the healing process and gain offseason chemistry with the roster based on recovery.” Spurs’ De’Aaron Fox to Miss Rest of Season.
Spurs Lose Both Fox and Wembanyama
Fox had already been adjusting to life in San Antonio without Wembanyama, and now the team will have to move forward without either of their two biggest stars. It’s a brutal turn of events, especially considering Fox was just starting to hit his stride. In his last game, he nearly posted a triple-double with 32 points, 11 assists, and nine rebounds.
“It’s definitely difficult without Vic [Wembanyama],” Fox admitted, per ClutchPoints’ Spurs reporter Hector Ledesma. “At the end of the day, some of the best teams in the league, when their best players aren’t playing, they still find a way to get wins.”
With this injury shutting Fox down for the rest of the season, he’ll finish his first year in San Antonio having played just 17 games. But if there’s a silver lining, it’s that both he and Wembanyama should be fully healthy next season. The Spurs, currently sitting 12th in the West at 27-37, will be looking to turn things around when their stars return. Spurs’ De’Aaron Fox to Miss Rest of Season.
