Colts Add Offensive Firepower to Support Anthony Richardson
The Indianapolis Colts made a major splash on Thursday, signing quarterback Daniel Jones in a move that sets up an intriguing competition with Anthony Richardson as he enters his third NFL season. Jones, a seasoned veteran, had a rough start to his career, going 12-25 in his first three seasons with the New York Giants.
Colts Eye Tight End Help in the Draft
According to FOX Sports’ David Helman, the Colts could use their 14th overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft to select Michigan tight end Colston Loveland. Indianapolis has struggled to get steady production from the tight end position, with Kylen Granson leading the group last season with just 14 catches for 182 yards. The last time a Colts tight end put up big numbers was in 2018 when Eric Ebron racked up 66 receptions for 750 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Loveland, on the other hand, had a standout 2023 season at Michigan, tallying 56 catches for 582 yards and five touchdowns in just 10 games. NFL Combine analyst Lance Zierlein sees him as a “highly skilled young tight end” with the athleticism and hands to become a top-tier pass catcher. His ability to stretch the field and play like a big-bodied receiver makes him a dangerous weapon at all levels of the passing game.
A Potential Game-Changer for the Colts’ Offense
If Indianapolis does land Loveland, he could become a much-needed safety valve over the middle, easing the load on outside targets like Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce—particularly in red-zone situations. However, the biggest question still looms in Indianapolis: Who will be under center when the season kicks off—Richardson or Jones?
Interestingly, another mock draft from analyst Luke Easterling projects Loveland going 22nd overall to the Los Angeles Chargers. With draft day approaching, all eyes will be on how the Colts address their offensive needs and whether they secure another dynamic playmaker for their young quarterback.
