Bills GM Reveals Josh Allen as He Speaks Out on Two Key Deals Behind His Desired Extension.

Bills GM Reveals Josh Allen as He Speaks Out. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen secured another massive payday, but rather than aiming to reset the quarterback market, the reigning NFL MVP prioritized creating salary cap flexibility for the team. His goal was to free up space for roster improvements in the short term.

“I wasn’t trying to squeeze every last dollar out of them, and I made that clear to my agent,” Allen said Wednesday via the team’s official website. “If it affected the cap, I wanted to find a way to avoid that. Both sides were open to adjustments, and it was a smooth, cooperative negotiation.”

Allen’s six-year, $330 million extension, which includes $250 million guaranteed, places him second among quarterbacks with an annual average of $55 million—tied with Joe Burrow, Jordan Love, and Trevor Lawrence—trailing only Dak Prescott’s $60 million per year.

“It sounds odd, but an extra $5 million wouldn’t change my life in any significant way,” Allen explained. “If it impacts the cap, I’d rather find a way around it.”

His contract now accounts for 19.7% of the Bills’ total salary cap, ranking 13th among all NFL deals. It’s common for extensions to be structured in a way that lowers the immediate cap hit by spreading the cost across multiple seasons, a tactic teams often use to manage financial flexibility as the salary cap continues to rise.

Allen’s extension, along with moves like releasing Von Miller, allowed Buffalo to create enough cap space to sign defensive end Joey Bosa and wide receiver Josh Palmer in free agency. The team also secured long-term deals for key players such as wide receiver Khalil Shakir, linebacker Terrel Bernard, and defensive end Gregory Rousseau.

Now, with an MVP award to his name and a fresh contract in hand, Allen remains focused on the one achievement that has eluded him: winning a Super Bowl.

“The 8-year-old version of me would be just as excited as I am now at 28,” Allen said. “Playing football has always been my dream, and now I get to keep doing it. This contract doesn’t mean I stop working—it pushes me to improve even more. I need to keep getting better and help this team get over the hump to win a championship.”

Reflecting on his journey, Allen emphasized his ultimate goal: “When I look back, the only thing missing is finishing the season with a win. That’s all I’m thinking about—getting better and finding a way to bring a Lombardi Trophy to Buffalo.”

The Buffalo Bills have made a splash this offseason, securing key signings like Joshua Palmer and Joey Bosa while also extending their offensive leader, reigning MVP Josh Allen. In addition to their free agency moves, the team is actively preparing for the 2025 NFL Draft—but they’re not the only ones with draft plans.

According to general manager Brandon Beane, Allen has been deeply engaged in the draft process, even sending him mock drafts. Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Beane shared how involved his star quarterback is in roster-building.

“He’s not trying to overstep, but he’s definitely paying attention,” Beane said. “He loves the draft. I swear, he does about 150 mock drafts a day. He’ll text me all kinds of scenarios—not just offensive players. He’ll even suggest trade ideas, like, ‘Hey, if you move this pick, you can get that.’ He’s really into it.”

Beane even recalled a moment when Allen took over a scout’s computer to showcase a mock draft he created. “He was like, ‘Hey, check this out. Look what I got for our team.’ He’s all in on this, which is pretty cool,” Beane added.

Allen has always been a team-first player, making sacrifices on and off the field, mentoring younger teammates, and now even offering draft insights to the front office.

Despite his MVP-winning season, Allen remains laser-focused on one goal: winning a Super Bowl. After suffering four consecutive playoff losses to the Kansas City Chiefs—despite putting up impressive postseason performances—he’s determined to finally overcome that hurdle. Allen’s 2024 MVP campaign was defined by efficiency. He threw for 3,731 yards and 28 touchdowns while limiting his interceptions to just six—a career-low and only the second time he’s posted single-digit picks in a season. In three playoff games, he completed 70.7% of his passes for 636 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

Allen is just one of several key players the Bills have locked up this offseason. The team also extended defensive standouts Greg Rousseau, Terrel Bernard, and Damar Hamlin, as well as slot receiver Khalil Shakir and running back Ty Johnson.

With Allen leading the charge both on the field and behind the scenes, the Bills are building toward a championship-caliber roster.
