Yankees Captain Aaron Judge Response. The New York Mets, established in 1962, are now in their 63rd MLB season. Over the years, they’ve secured five National League pennants and two World Series titles.
Meanwhile, the New York Yankees, founded in 1903, have a much longer history. Initially known as the New York Highlanders, the team played in Washington Heights at Hilltop Park. By 1913, they had moved to the Polo Grounds and adopted the Yankees name. Their legendary Bronx stadium, “Yankee Stadium,” opened in 1923, three years after acquiring Babe Ruth from the Red Sox.
The Yankees have since become the most successful team in baseball, winning 27 championships out of 41 World Series appearances. They are the only franchise to win four consecutive World Series titles twice, including a five-year streak from 1949 to 1953.
Given this legacy, Juan Soto’s decision to leave the Yankees after just one season (2024) and sign a massive 15-year, $765 million contract with the Mets raised eyebrows. In December, Soto explained his move by stating the Mets “have the best chance to win,” a remark that didn’t sit well in the Bronx.
Yankees Captain Aaron Judge Responds.
Speaking for the first time in spring training on Monday, Yankees captain Aaron Judge, the reigning AL MVP, responded to Soto’s comment.
“That’s his opinion. He can say what he wants, I definitely disagree with it,” Judge told SNY in a video posted on X. “I wasn’t too surprised by it, I think that’s where he wanted to be.”
Despite his disagreement, Judge, known for his sportsmanship, emphasized he had no hard feelings, adding, “I’m happy for him.”

The Soto-Judge storyline will resume on May 16, when Soto returns to Yankee Stadium as a Met for the first of six meetings between the two teams in 2025.
The New York Mets, established in 1962, will enter their 63rd season in Major League Baseball in 2025. Over the years, they have captured the National League pennant five times and claimed two World Series titles.
In contrast, the New York Yankees have a much longer history, dating back to 1903. Originally known as the New York Highlanders, the team played in Washington Heights at Hilltop Park, a wooden stadium built on Manhattan’s highest point.
In April 1913, the team relocated to a lower-lying area of Washington Heights, sharing the Polo Grounds with the New York Giants. With this move, they dropped the “Highlanders” name and officially became the Yankees. By 1923—three years after acquiring the legendary Babe Ruth from the Red Sox—the team settled into its new home in the Bronx, the state-of-the-art (for its time) Yankee Stadium.
Since then, the Yankees have established themselves as the most successful franchise in MLB history. They have won 27 championships in 41 World Series appearances. The Yankees also remain the only team to win four consecutive World Series titles twice, including a remarkable five-year streak from 1949 to
1953.
