Since the trade deadline, the San Antonio Spurs have struggled to find depth at center. Zach Collins is already with the Chicago Bulls, Charles Bassey has strained his MCL, and Jeremy Sochan, despite his abilities, is not suited to playing long minutes as a backup center.

To add depth, the Spurs signed Bismack Biyombo to a ten-day deal, but the veteran center did not play in his debut against the Washington Wizards. To make room for newly signed Alex Len, the Lakers waived Christian Wood—a straightforward decision given Len’s health and Wood’s lack of playing time this season.

Wood is far removed from his standout 2020-21 campaign when he averaged 21 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Last season, in 50 appearances with the Lakers, he posted just 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, despite his floor-spacing ability and occasional defensive contributions. His durability remains a concern, as he has yet to complete a 70-game season.

That said, adding depth behind Wembanyama, Bassey, and Sandro Mamukelashvili should be a top priority for Tottenham. If Biyombo isn’t the answer, Wood could still be worth considering.

He has yet to play this season, but is anticipated to be ready shortly after the All-Star break. The former Dallas Mavericks center is anticipated to be chased by multiple clubs, including the Mavs, but the Spurs may attempt to sign him in free agency before the season concludes. What the Boston Celtics Had to Say About Torrey Craig’s Debut in the Spurs’ Victory.

Boston — Torrey Craig, the newest Celtics signee, stated he felt better than expected despite not having played a game since December 30, 2024. An ankle injury held him out for weeks while he was with the Bulls, and he was eventually dismissed by the franchise.

That allowed Craig to sign with the Celtics, and he was a surprise addition to the roster before of Wednesday’s victory over the Spurs. Given the C’s absence of two starters, Jaylen Brown and Jrue Holiday, Craig was able to make his Boston debut in the blowout Spurs victory.

“It was crazy,” Craig remarked. “The atmosphere, the audience, the fans. It’s a thrill to play in front of such a large crowd. And, yeah, I’m just thrilled I got my start in the Garden. “I’m glad I made my first shot.”

Craig played nine minutes, scoring six points and one assist while going two-for-two from three. While he didn’t get much playing time, the 34-year-old demonstrated why the Celtics acquired him on the buyout market. The 6-foot-8 wing should fit right in as a strong defender capable of knocking down open looks.

The Celtics will not have to rely on Craig every night, especially if they are fully healthy. However, given that the C’s are still loaded, Craig provides an additional insurance option on nights like Wednesday when they are shorthanded. Craig could be an additional matchup option in the playoffs, depending on his opponent.

So the Celtics enter the All-Star break after gaining momentum. They’ve won seven of their last eight games, improving to 39-16 on the season. Craig will now have the opportunity to recuperate while preparing for the season’s final stretch leading up to the playoffs.

“Just catching up on everything,” Craig added. “Trying to repeat the correct calls and brush up on a lot of the jargon since a lot of it is quite basic. And I’ve been around for a long time, so I’ve seen a lot of the coverages, just getting to know the names and the terminology.”

What else did the Celtics say about Craig’s debut?

Joe Mazzulla: “He plays a significant role just because of his versatility, right? So it will take time for him to understand the language and what we do on both ends of the floor, and you can watch as much film as you want and walk through it, but until he is in the game, it will just be a conversation about how we can use his versatility on both ends of the floor. So he accomplished some of that tonight by displaying defensive versatility and making those two shots. So I’m just going to bring him up to speed.”

Jayson Tatum: “He integrated fairly well. We didn’t have rehearsal or anything, so we put him in on the spot. However, remaining prepared is an important aspect of being a professional. Obviously, he will improve and become more comfortable with us as the season develops. But he provided a spark off the bench, made some threes, and backed up on defense, which is what we expect from him.”

Kristaps Porzingis: “I thought he was terrific. He’s going to add enthusiasm; he made a few shots and appeared to be at ease out there. We want him to be as engaged as he is. He’s chatting. He has communicated since day one. Excellent vet presence. He’s older than I expected. I believed he was younger than me, but he’s slightly older. So he’s definitely a terrific voice to have in the locker room, as well as a pleasant personality to be around.”
