Yankees Head Coach Aaron Boone announced this two.
It makes logical that the New York Yankees would want to deal starting pitcher Marcus Stroman before to Opening Day. If Stroman pitches at least 140 innings this season, he will receive $18 million in 2025 and an additional $18 million in 2026.
Max Fried was also added to the rotation by New York, and Stroman did not make the Yankees’ World Series team the previous season. The right-hander appears to be the Bronx’s sixth starting pitcher as of right now.
With this Braves-Yankees trade, Atlanta would have a strong Jack Flaherty pivot.
The ideal suitor would be a franchise such as the Atlanta Braves. After having trouble with pitching depth in 2024, Atlanta has lost Fried and Charlie Morton this season. As spring training draws near, the Braves now have a really thin starting rotation.
Although they had a strong interest in free agent starter Jack Flaherty, the right-hander ultimately agreed to a two-year contract with the Detroit Tigers. The Braves can’t be too particular about the pitcher they pursue after this whiff. They would have a reliable innings eater who could replace Morton if they were to sign Stroman. Before the season starts, Atlanta would still need to make a few decisions.
In exchange for Stroman and money, the Braves would trade pitching prospect Cade Kuehler to the Yankees. The money from this transaction would cover half of Stroman’s remaining contract.
Although Kuehler, 22, is a great pitching prospect for the Braves, Atlanta’s organization has several talented pitchers ahead of him. The righty is recuperating from surgery performed by Tommy John during the previous season. The right-hander’s explosive fastball had good off-speed offerings prior to surgery. This is the agreement to make if the Yankees think he will recover from surgery.
Stroman was originally selected by Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos when he was a member of the Toronto Blue Jays. Anthopoulos was able to arrange a trade to bring the righty to Atlanta several years later.
Stroman will work well in Atlanta’s rotation even though he might not be a middle-of-the-rotation starter for New York.
