Ryan Day’s Wife Reacted to Death Threats…

Some of the nation’s most ardent supporters are reportedly Ohio State Buckeyes. Ryan Day and his family, the head football coach, may be the best people to understand that. After Ohio State’s November 13–10 defeat at the hands of archrival Michigan.

30 Day and his family witnessed something they probably would prefer to forget about Buckeye Nation. Calls to fire Day, who was then 66-10 in six seasons at OSU, erupted on message boards and social media.

In fact, things became so terrible that Day had to hire armed security at his house around-the-clock to protect his family when their address was made public on social media.

After Day’s wife Nina’s phone number was made public online, she started getting threatening calls and texts. According to the Columbus Dispatch, she even contemplated leaving the state with her kids after her 16-year-old son R.J. started receiving death threats on social media.

Her words, “It was very difficult,” “Very challenging. Many tears were shed. Because I didn’t want to frighten [our children], we protected them from a lot of it. I did not want them to remain awake at night worrying about a negative outcome.

“My children have spent too much time hearing only bad things about Ryan. You can only hear “Ryan’s a loser” so many times. Big games are unwinnable for Ryan. Third base is where Ryan was born. My children must be exposed to positive messages about their father and the program. It’s just good for you. My children deserve to appreciate this time, thus I want them to do so.”

Day’s children weren’t the only ones who received death threats. Nina also revealed that some admirers urged Day to follow in his father’s footsteps, who killed himself when he was just 8 years old.

However, she emphasized that the abusive texts and threats were from a minority of OSU supporters and that their behavior is typical of all OSU supporters.

“It’s very disappointing to me what some people are capable of, but you look at the news and you look at our society as a whole,” Nina said. “People are so cruel. They’re really critical. They are vile. Although I’m not claiming that everyone is, there are undoubtedly those people who are simply vicious in their hatred.
