ESPN announced on Tuesday that safety coach Brian Belichick is leaving the New England Patriots.
Belichick joined the team in 2016 and is the youngest son of coach Bill Belichick, who has won six Super Bowls.
He had positions as a safety coach (2020–24), coaching assistant (2017–19), and scouting assistant (2016).
On January 12, the Patriots hired Mike Vrabel as their head coach. In the 2024 season, which was New England’s first without Bill Belichick since 1999, he took over for Jared Mayo, who was dismissed after recording a 4-13 record.
On December 11, Bill Belichick was appointed head coach of North Carolina. Steve, another son, has joined him as the Tar Heels’ defensive coordinator.

For the previous six seasons, Pellegrino was the cornerbacks coach for the Patriots. He served as head coach Bill Belichick’s coaching assistant from 2016 to 2018 and as a football operations intern in 2015.
Last offseason, Belichick was replaced by Jerod Mayo, and Pellegrino was one of the few people kept.
Christian Gonzalez, J.C. Jackson, and Stephon Gilmore were all All-Pro cornerbacks under his tutelage. As was the case throughout the disappointing 2024 season, New England usually had one of the best cornerback rooms.
