Apparently feeling the same way, an NFL executive sent Mike Sando of The Athletic a huge critique of Harbaugh.
“This season was a testament to Harbaugh’s vision, his leadership and the identity he brings to them,” the manager stated. “It’s been a while since they had that. Naturally, Harbaugh also had a lot of success with the San Francisco 49ers, going 44-19-1 while guiding the team to three postseason visits, a Super Bowl appearance, and two NFC West division titles over the course of four seasons.
As an NFL head coach, Harbaugh has never had a losing record, which is undoubtedly an accomplishment.
Particularly on the offensive end, where quarterback Justin Herbert lacks weapons, the Chargers undoubtedly need to add a few more pieces throughout the offseason. Along their offensive line, they could also use some help.
But for the foreseeable future, Los Angeles should be a formidable team in the AFC as long as Harbaugh remains in charge.

The Stanford product has been a dependable safety blanket for quarterbacks throughout his career and remained a productive threat in 2024, despite never having achieved the same heights as players like Travis Kelce or Rob Gronkowski. The tight end, who is 34 years old, concluded the season with 66 receptions for 654 yards and seven touchdowns, helping lead rookie Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders to the NFC Championship Game.
Ertz may not rejoin the Washington Commanders, but he wants to continue playing. Washington may decide to proceed with Ben Sinnott, a potential young player, as their preferred choice, even though the upcoming free agent seems to be open to a reunion. In such case, Zach Ertz might decide to retire after agreeing to a one-year contract with a team like the Carolina Panthers or Los Angeles Chargers.

In the first season of the Jim Harbaugh Era, the Los Angeles Chargers qualified for the playoffs, but they were unable to advance far because of their subpar offensive weaponry. Zach Ertz may decide not to play for the Panthers if he wants to win a title before deciding to retire. He might, however, enjoy the prospect of playing with a young quarterback like Bryce Young, as no one thought the Commanders would go to the NFC Championship Game the previous season. The Alabama product appeared to be a real franchise quarterback in the closing stages of his career after a difficult start, and he should continue to do so beyond 2025.
Although the defense will receive the majority of Carolina’s summer resources, the offense could use another dependable veteran.
