Colts HC Shane Steichen has officially terminated his contract and announced his departure following Bengals’ James Bettcher’s huge news to the Colts.
Cincinnati — In Indianapolis, Lou Anarumo hired a coach from the Bengals. Tom Pelissero claims that James Bettcher, a former linebackers coach, will be traveling down the highway to join Anarumo.
For the previous three seasons, Bettcher coached the Bengals’ linebackers, replacing now-defensive coordinator Al Golden. In 2018, he also served as a coach in New York with Anarumo.
With Chris Watt (National Team tight ends coach), Matt Raich (American Team defensive coordinator), Brent Jackson (American Team defensive backs coach), and Kalon Humphries (American Team linebackers/edge coach) all representing the Horseshoe, the Indianapolis Colts coaching staff will be well-represented at this year’s Senior Bowl.
Tanor Bortolini, Kylen Granson, Laiatu Latu, Alec Pierce, Michael Pittman Jr., and Bernhard Raimann are just a few of the “Senior Bowl standouts” that Colts longstanding general manager Chris Ballard has drafted in the past. Not to mention, one of the greatest treasures of his current tenure is Darius “Shaq” Leonard, a former Colts linebacker who was named an All-Pro. Kenny Moore II, a claimed cornerback, has also played in the Senior Bowl. Shane Steichen officially terminated
The Colts scouting department might be able to get a lot more intimate and up-close look at some of the talented prospects this year, which could be beneficial come draft weekend and even lead to priority undrafted rookie free agent signings.
The Colts may have their sights set on the tight end position in particular, as well as enhancing their defense as a whole with possible additions at linebacker, pass rusher, and secondary—especially because new veteran defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo needs better “horses.”
Certain Colts coaches are positioned opportunistically for Indianapolis in that sense. Shane Steichen officially terminated
Additionally, several of these Colts coaches have a rare chance to coach position groups or advance to coaching positions that they do not now hold for Indianapolis. If nothing else, it gives the Colts a little more intrigue when they visit Mobile, Alabama, for Senior Bowl week on February 1.
