“I think one of the big issues we have and across the board in college football right now is enforcement,” Day stated. As you may know, there have been a number of incidents in the previous few years or even earlier, but enforcement is currently under a lot of strain.
“Until we begin to enforce some of these regulations, as you mentioned, anyone may simply phone the parents or agent of someone and make an offer of a specific sum of money, and then things go accordingly. That’s only a portion of it.
Earlier in the year, Ohio State came under fire after it was discovered that the team had spent $20 million in NIL funds to assemble their 2024 roster.
In addition, Day acknowledges that the Buckeyes may theoretically try to poach players in the same way that other clubs do. However, he also revealed that he and other coaches are still unsure of what they can get away with using the NIL pretext.
