Georgia Bulldogs Faces Another Major Setback, HC Kirby Smart Confirms Mind-Boggling Injury Update.
Carson Beck, the new quarterback for Miami, had a mixed 2024 season with Georgia. Beck’s season was divided into many sections. As Georgia began 2024 with victories over Clemson, Tennessee Tech, and Kentucky, Beck completed 68.3 percent of his passes, averaged 222.7 yards per game, and threw seven touchdowns without being intercepted. In their fourth game of 2024, the Bulldogs were trailing Alabama 21-0 by the end of the first quarter. Alabama increased their lead to 30-7 at halftime, adding 28 more points in the second quarter. In the opening quarter, Alabama outscored Georgia 198-27. During that period, Beck completed 2 of 7 passes for 19 yards and threw one interception.
After Beck threw an interception on Georgia’s first three possessions, the team gained just 12 yards on 10 plays. Meanwhile, Alabama dominated, racking up 174 yards on their first four possessions to take a commanding 28-0 lead. Georgia finally got on the scoreboard with an 11-play, 75-yard touchdown drive led by Beck on their fourth possession.
The safety came when Beck was called for intentional grounding in the end zone. On their final three drives of the first half, Georgia gained 51 yards on 7 plays. After a three-and-out to start the second half, resulting in a loss of 11 yards, Beck and the Bulldogs began to gain momentum offensively.
In the third quarter, Beck was 8-15 for 80 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions. They were behind 33-15 at the end of the fourth quarter, Georgia. With 2:31 left in the fourth quarter, Georgia took an unlikely 34-33 lead after scoring 21 points in a row.
In the fourth quarter, Beck was 11–18 for 259 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. A 67-yard touchdown pass from Beck to Dillon Bell gave Georgia the lead. Thirteen seconds later, Jalen Milroe’s 75-yard touchdown pass to the outstanding 17-year-old rookie Ryan Williams gave Alabama the victory.
In the game against Alabama, Beck set a career high with 439 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions in a 27-50 loss. The following week, in Georgia’s 31-13 win over Auburn, Beck completed 23 of 29 passes for 240 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. His performance against Auburn appeared to help him move past the interceptions from the Alabama game.
In a 41-31 victory over Mississippi State, Beck was 36-48 for a new career-high 459 yards with three touchdowns but two interceptions. The three interceptions started Beck’s dismal run of four games. Beck averaged 282.25 passing yards per game, five touchdowns, and nine interceptions while completing 65 percent of his throw attempts.
In Georgia’s 30–15 victory over Texas, Beck passed for 175 yards without a touchdown and three interceptions. Two weeks later, as Georgia fell 28–10 against Mississippi, Beck threw for 186 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception. During the four games where Beck labored, Georgia was lucky to go 3-1.
