The Memphis Grizzlies were “bad news bears” in their early years, according to the two-time NBA champion.

Hall of Famer Pau Gasol was a member of the club he played for, but none of the veterans made an effort to mentor the younger players. Jason Williams and Stromile Swift were also members of the Grizzlies.
“I wish I could say I had great veterans who guided me, took me under their wings, and showed me the ropes,” Battier remarked. “But when I mentioned that in the locker room, I was actually scolded for it. They said, ‘No way, man, you’ve got to figure it out on your own, just like we did.’
