The collegiate football community has been rocked by Carson Beck’s choice to use the transfer portal. The Georgia quarterback is getting ready for a different kind of transition after earlier declaring his intention to enter the 2025 NFL Draft.
Following a UCL injury during the SEC Championship that sidelined him for the rest of Georgia’s postseason, including the Sugar Bowl, he took an unforeseen step.
Beck has great career numbers in spite of the setback. In his career with the Bulldogs, the former four-star recruit has passed for 58 touchdowns and almost 8,000 yards. His 2024 campaign, however, was uneventful; he had three games with multiple picks and threw 28 touchdowns while recording 12 interceptions. Beck, who has one more year of eligibility, is expected to be among the most sought-after players on the transfer window and may fetch a high NIL deal wherever he ends up.
Fans are already making predictions about Beck’s future as Georgia moves forward without him. Beck was born in Jacksonville. Beck is a game-changing possibility for clubs in need of a proven quarterback because of his background in high-pressure situations and SEC competition.
Here are five up-and-coming prospects for Carson Beck’s services.
1. The Hurricanes of Miami
The Hurricanes desperately need a quarterback if they hope to stay competitive in the ACC. There is nothing about that Pop-Tarts Bowl performance versus Iowa State in the second half that gives confidence going into the offseason, no insult to Emory Williams.
Though nothing has been verified, there have been speculations that Miami was among the schools that might have placed a bid for Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers.
It makes logical that the Hurricanes may pursue an experienced player like Beck in order to contend for an ACC Championship the following season, when their schedule is more than favorable, if Miami wasn’t going to win the Ewers sweepstakes. The Hurricanes appear to be the overwhelming favorite to sign Beck at this time.
2. The Rebels of Ole Miss
After failing to qualify for the SEC in 2024, Lane Kiffin hopes to try again in 2025. Although the Rebels have already added a few players from the Transfer Portal to position themselves as a contender for the upcoming campaign, there are still some unanswered questions, especially at quarterback.
Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss’s starting quarterback, will be selected in the NFL Draft.
The Rebels have not yet acquired a quarterback, and it appears that Austin Simmons and AJ Maddox, who have both had little to no playing experience, could share the position. Additionally, we are aware that Ole Miss has been searching the Transfer Portal for a quarterback but has not yet found the candidate they are looking for. Is Carson Beck that person?
3. The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame
Riley Leonard is leaving Notre Dame, and the Fighting Irish have a history of acquiring elite quarterbacks to take over the program for a season.
Riley Leonard showed that he could handle the task, leading the Irish to an 11-1 regular season record and a long run through the College Football Playoffs, while Sam Hartman was unable to get them over the hump.
The crucial query here is: Will Notre Dame repeat?
If you’re an Irish fan, Carson Beck is the kind of quarterback you want. When healthy, he has demonstrated that he has a gifted arm, and a squad that will be missing certain offensive components next season will benefit from his expertise. Will the main piece make a comeback? Jeremiyah Love, RB.
Love is back, so you don’t have to match him with a quarterback who can “do it all.” A quarterback must be able to control the game, pass the ball to his playmakers, and remain composed. Despite not being elite, Beck has demonstrated that he is capable of doing such things.
4. The Tar Heels of North Carolina
Even though Jacolby Criswell is a returning starter, it’s obvious that Bill Belichick is making a significant effort to change things in Chapel Hill. In addition to Criswell, North Carolina’s roster includes true freshman Bryce Baker and Purdue transfer Ryan Browne.
What better way for Belichick to make a big impression than with one of the most well-known names in the Transfer Portal?
Even though Criswell might be the solution in Chapel Hill, Tar Heel supporters shouldn’t assume that he will be a top choice for them in 2025 based on his performance in the previous season. UNC must improve at quarterback, among many other areas, if they hope to have a realistic chance at the ACC Championship.
5. The Crimson Tide of Alabama
Many Alabama supporters are eager to see what will happen now that Jalen Milroe is no longer with them, but behind him is a huge network of inexperience.
Redshirt junior Ty Smpson and freshman Keelon Russell are expected to compete for the starting position in spring, but if the Tide select either of those players in 2025, you’re taking a big risk. Austin Mack, a redshirt sophomore, is also present, however for the time being, he is ranked third on the depth chart. Despite his skill, Russell has never played collegiate ball, and Simpson hasn’t shown that he can be “the guy.”
Wouldn’t it make sense to hire an experienced Carson Beck to cover for Ty Simpson for a year if Alabama is certain that he isn’t the solution? Instead of throwing the rookie into the fire at the start of his career, that would give Russell time to prepare and get used to the game’s tempo.
