Once again, the New England Patriots will be quite busy throughout the offseason. The Patriots fired Jerod Mayo after one season after defeating the Buffalo Bills in Week 18. Players’ reactions to Mayo’s departure were quick, but they sounded like a breath of relief.

Eliot Wolf will remain with the Patriots and will have a say in the next head coach they appoint. When the Tennessee Titans fired Ran Carthon, they joined the New York Jets, who had the lone general manager vacancy going into Tuesday.

NFL News: Ran Carthon was fired by the Titans on Tuesday.

There may be movement along that roster now that Carthon is no longer in command in Tennessee. It might be prudent for the Patriots to get in touch with them and find out how much wide receiver Calvin Ridley costs.

The necessity of WR1 is obvious. Despite having a lot of flashes as a rookie, quarterback Drake Maye needs a trustworthy playmaker. DeMario Douglas, the top wide receiver in New England, has 621 yards this season. They should call in regarding Ridley since it isn’t good enough.

The Patriots were very interested in signing Ridley before he agreed to a four-year, $92 million contract with the Titans in 2023. The Titans handed him $50 million guaranteed, but New England reportedly refused to pay more than $40 million. That was the decisive element, but in 2025, things might have changed.

The Alabama standout is under contract through 2027, with cap hits of $28 million in 2025, $26 million in 2026, and $27 million in 2027. Per Overthecap.com, New England will enter the offseason with $127 million in cap space.

Patriots Have Perfect Trade Opportunity After Shocking GM Firing

They have the draft capital required to close a trade, as well as the money to absorb his contract. Landing Ridley would probably need a Day 2 pick, but it would be worthwhile. Ridley has 388 receptions for 5,375 yards and 40 touchdowns during his career. He would be a great asset to New England and has three seasons with 1,000 yards or more.

The Pats showed interest in Ridley last season; we’ll have to wait and watch how things play out in Tennessee. They might be able to bring him to Foxborough and make amends.
