There have been rumors that quarterback Kyler Murray might not be on the Arizona Cardinals’ roster when the upcoming season begins because of the team’s dismal 8-9 finish this year.
Given that they have missed the playoffs for the third consecutive season, their squad may change significantly in the coming months.
However, head coach Jonathan Gannon stated that Murray will “100 percent” be a Cardinal for the upcoming campaign, according to Darren Urban.
Murray had a strong season, completing 68.8% of his pass attempts and throwing for 3,851 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also gained 572 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.
It appears that he has recovered from his ACL injury from two years ago and is back to his previous level of play, which earned him two Pro Bowl selections in 2020 and 2021.
The Cardinals will only have the No. 16 choice in the 2018 NFL draft, and the rest of their squad has some potential, so trading Murray would seem dumb at least on the surface.
Running back James Connor ran for 1,094 yards and eight touchdowns, tight end Trey McBride contributed 1,146 yards, and rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. amassed 885 yards and eight scores despite some problems.
Murray is over 27, so he should have a few more years of playing football at a high level. That No. 16 choice might not produce a star, but it might provide Arizona with a reliable starter who can contribute immediately.
