Despite being quite active throughout this transfer portal session, Kirby Smart and Georgia football have yet to secure any pledges. Nearly every other program in the nation had at least one transfer by now, if not more, so this is a worrying statistic.

This wouldn’t really matter if Smart and his team weren’t using the gateway, but they have been using it a lot. Although they have pursued numerous transfers, they have not yet been successful in landing a recruit. That might soon change, though, as a crystal ball forecast from 247Sports recently indicated that Georgia will receive their first transfer pledge.

Adrian Maddox, a UAB safety, started his playing days at Alabama State in 2022. During his two seasons as a player at Alabama State, he recorded 70 tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions.

Maddox decided to go through the transfer portal and transfer to UAB following the 2023 season. Maddox enjoyed his greatest season of his career during his one season with UAB this year. 44 tackles, seven passes defended, two forced fumbles, one interception, and one score were his season-ending totals. Additionally, Maddox is searching for a new program after using the transfer portal once more following this successful season with UAB.

Georgia seems to have the potential to be that new program. Maddox might not start, but he would be a good backup for the Bulldogs because Georgia will have some depth to replace in the secondary the next season. It’s always good to see a former Georgia athlete come home and play for the Bulldogs, especially if Maddox is originally from Georgia.

Georgia football on the verge of landing first transfer

Although Maddox’s exact timing for announcing his commitment is unknown, all indications now suggest that Georgia will finally receive some positive news from the transfer portal.
