The New England Patriots lost to the Los Angeles Chargers 40-7 on Saturday morning, dropping them to 3-13 on the season with just one game left against the Buffalo Bills the following weekend.

The Pats are currently experiencing their second six-game losing skid of the season, and following their most recent thumping, head coach Jerod Mayo made an open assessment of his club.

“There was really nothing good to take out of that game today,” Mayo stated in his postgame press conference. “The lack of execution…Look, that football team is good, and they have good coaches. We simply didn’t perform well enough during the entire game. There is no free football, and that is what you receive.

Given that the Pats were dominated in every aspect of the game in their home stadium, it’s difficult to disagree with Mayo’s assessment.

After the team’s strong performance in a narrow 24–21 loss to the Buffalo Bills the week before, it was a significant setback.

The Chargers had 428 total yards, while the Patriots only had 181.

Because they could only hang onto the ball for 19 minutes and 26 seconds, they were also doubled up in time of possession.

They only managed 11 first downs over the entire game, which was a major contributing factor.

To obtain Drake Maye as much assistance as possible, the Patriots must now be careful not to jeopardize their draft spot.

He has been the only positive development for the team in 2024, and Pats supporters can rest easy knowing that they at least have their future quarterback.

The way this season has gone, the Patriots’ ownership is to blame.

Jerod Mayo of the Patriots Addresses Harsh Fan Criticism

Jerod Mayo’s job status has come up again, just as it appeared that he had solidified his position as head coach of the New England Patriots for the 2025 NFL season.

The Patriots dropped to a terrible 3-13 on the season after being thrashed by the Los Angeles Chargers 40-7 on Saturday afternoon.

Throughout the game, Gillette Stadium supporters yelled “fire Mayo” at Mayo, demonstrating how frustrated the Foxborough supporters are with the team’s poor play.

After that, Mayo was questioned about the fans’ annoyance, and he really gave a pretty decent answer.

We need to improve our performance so that we won’t have to listen to those things, Mayo told reporters. “Look, you hear those things, but at the same time they paid to sit in the seats,” she said.

Given that Mayo has reportedly made a lot of mistakes in 2024, it is pleasant that he was able to respond in such a non-controversial manner.

We’ll give him the benefit of the doubt here, but the whole “we’ve got to play better” statement may be interpreted as another jab at his players rather than taking responsibility.

It goes without saying that Mayo’s first season as head coach of New England has not gone well.

To be fair, the Pats have one of the worst football lineups and nobody predicted they would be a playoff contender going into the season.

The Patriots should be able to add several players throughout the offseason because they are expected to have a lot of cap space going into free agency.

Robert Kraft will most likely give Mayo his walking papers if New England doesn’t improve by 2025.
