Georgia football revealed late Monday night that quarterback Carson Beck had successfully operated on his elbow, sadly ending his season before UGA’s bid for the College Football Playoffs ever got underway.
Given that it had been alluded to since he sustained the injury during Georgia’s victory over Texas in the SEC Championship game, this revelation wasn’t particularly shocking. Even though it was anticipated, it is nonetheless devastating.
It’s time for Beck to move on to a crucial offseason now that this information is formally out. Additionally, he will have to make one of the most important decisions of his life this offseason.
Should Carson Beck play one more season or turn pro?
Beck took the rather unexpected decision to return to Georgia for another season at the end of the previous one. Beck returned for what was believed to be his final season of collegiate football, even though he might have entered the 2024 NFL Draft and been taken reasonably high.
Beck still has one year left to be eligible, though, and given how last year went, it might not be a bad idea for him to go back to Georgia.
It’s no secret that Beck’s season this year wasn’t what anyone had hoped for. Beck’s NFL Draft status declined during the season as a result of his poor performance compared to the previous year. At the end of the season, Beck had an elbow injury that will further hurt his draft prospects. In order to prove that this ailment isn’t a problem and that he is as good a player as everyone believed going into this season, Beck might decide to play again.
It’s always possible, though, that his draft standing won’t get better the next season. What if Beck has a worse season than the one before? What happens if he gets hurt again? The last thing anyone wants is for him to drop even deeper in the draft, which is what both of those things may do.
For Beck, this is a really tough choice. Both choices have a lot of advantages and disadvantages, so it will be interesting to watch how things play out this offseason. However, one thing is for sure: no matter what Beck chooses to do, the Georgia football program and supporters will support him.
