It’s been a hectic day for Georgia football regarding the transfer portal. While the Bulldogs are gearing up for their College Football Playoff journey, the transfer portal is currently dominating the college football landscape.
In addition to drawing in some wide receivers for recruiting visits and making waves with quarterback offers from the portal, Kirby Smart and his staff have also seen several prospects depart for the portal.
After losing a young defensive back earlier on Friday, Georgia is now set to lose two more defensive players.
Troy Bowles, LB for Georgia
Troy Bowles, a linebacker, is first up. During the 2023 season, Bowles participated in three games and collected five tackles overall. He did not participate in a single game this season, which was disappointing because he had anticipated seeing more time going into the season.
When that happens, it’s not shocking to see that player go through the portal in search of a better chance where he may get more playing time. And wherever he goes next, hopefully that’s what happens.
Georgia EDGE Samuel M’Pemba is the third player to enter the transfer portal for the Bulldogs on Friday.
Continuing the pattern of players leaving Georgia who haven’t seen much playing time, M’Pemba is another example. Like Bowles, M’Pemba did not play this season, following a brief 2023 campaign where he recorded six tackles in four games.
While it’s always disappointing to see players depart from Georgia, these two recent moves are understandable from their perspective. Hopefully, they find a good fit at their next program, and Georgia can replace them on the depth chart.
