The Michigan Wolverines currently have the advantage in their longstanding college football rivalry with the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Michigan has won four straight matchups in “The Game,” including a shocking upset at Ohio Stadium this year.
Sherrone Moore and the unranked Wolverines took down Ryan Day and the No. 2 Buckeyes with a 13-10 victory, despite being 19.5-point underdogs going into the game.
On Saturday, Michigan’s standout defensive lineman Mason Graham announced he would be entering the 2025 NFL Draft after three seasons with the Wolverines.
During his time at Michigan, Graham remained undefeated against Ohio State, with a 3-0 record.
“It has been an honor and a dream come true to represent the University of Michigan… and, of course, beating Ohio State three years in a row,” Graham wrote in his NFL Draft announcement.
Ohio State fans responded in the comments to Graham’s remark. “I have a new favorite player to dislike. It makes it interesting. Watching OSU dominate UM for most of this century got boring…” one fan wrote.
“He earned the right to brag, but in my opinion, this shows poor sportsmanship. The foundation of this rivalry is built on deep mutual respect,” another commented.
“Just like the flag planting, this is totally ‘little brother’ behavior. But it’s understandable, considering they’re not used to winning up there in Ann Arbor. Michigan is typically a 7-9 win team unless Stallions is coaching,” another added. “OSU lives rent-free in Michigan’s head 24/7, 365 days a year!!” one more fan wrote.
Despite losing to Michigan in the regular-season finale, Ohio State still secured a spot in the 2024 College Football Playoff. The No. 8 seed Buckeyes will face the No. 9 seed Tennessee Volunteers in the first round at Ohio Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 21.
Meanwhile, Michigan will play Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Dec. 31.
Ohio State Quarterback Declares Transfer Before College Football Playoff.
The end of the season hasn’t gone as Ohio State Buckeyes fans and players had hoped, and the bad news kept coming on Sunday, December 8. The Buckeyes suffered a home loss to their rivals, the Michigan Wolverines, in the final regular season game, marking their second loss of the season and preventing them from advancing to the Big Ten Championship Game.
The Oregon Ducks, the only other team to beat OSU this year, triumphed over the Penn State Nittany Lions in the title game, securing a first-round bye in the College Football Playoffs as the No. 1 overall seed. Then, on Sunday, backup quarterback Devin Brown announced he would be entering the transfer portal after the 2024 season. CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported via X, “Ohio State QB Devin Brown has announced that he’s entering the transfer portal. Was a Class of 2022 top-45 recruit.
Will remain with Buckeyes through the end of the season.” Brown, who served as the second-string quarterback behind Will Howard, appeared in six games this season, throwing just 19 passes. He finished the year 10-of-19 for 108 yards and 1 touchdown.
Brown will be the second notable quarterback to leave the program in two years, following Kyle McCord’s transfer to Syracuse after last season. McCord threw for 4,326 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions for Syracuse in a three-loss season, arguably having a better year than Howard, who threw for 2,860 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions for the Buckeyes in their two-loss campaign. However, OSU is the No. 8 seed in the CFP and will host Tennessee for a first-round game on Dec. 21, while Syracuse did not make the 12-team field.
