Before Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills at 4:25 p.m. ET at Ford Field, the Detroit Lions are tied with the Kansas City Chiefs for the best record in the National Football League.

This week’s tension and interest in the Motor City’s downtown region are increased by the fact that Josh Allen, James Cook, and the Bills are the only team to defeat the Chiefs this season.

In advance of one of the most anticipated football games of the 2024 season, the Detroit Lions made a social media announcement on Monday that was warmly embraced by supporters.

In preparation for a somber atmosphere during Sunday’s game between two Super Bowl hopefuls in downtown Detroit, the Lions are getting ready to return to Ford Field in their alternate “Motor City Muscle” black uniforms with a dark theme.

If the Lions suit up in their black alternate uniforms as expected, it will mark the second time this season. They first wore them on September 30, 2024, during a Monday Night Football victory over the Seattle Seahawks, led by Geno Smith and Kenneth Walker III.

When the news was announced, one fan responded, “For the Bills funeral let’s go,” “13-1 confirmed,” remarked another enthusiast. Another person wrote, “Admin, you’re cooking,” using three “flame” emojis.

Since Jon Kitna and JP Losman started playing quarterback for both teams in October 2006, the Lions have not defeated the Bills.

In the series between the two teams, Detroit has suffered four consecutive losses, including a 28–25 victory over Jared Goff’s Lions in Motown in 2022 by Josh Allen’s Bills.

Josh Allen’s loss to the Bills in Week 14 probably cost him $2.5 million.

In a defeat the NFL community has never witnessed, it was one of the more outstanding performances. Josh Allen, the quarterback for the Bills, made an NFL record by scoring three touchdowns passing and three touchdowns rushing, earning a record 51.88 fantasy football points in the process. In fact, it was a flawless fantasy football performance.

Just to underline that Allen had a fantastic day in fantasy football, the Bills’ loss hardly mattered as long as Allen’s stats were strong.

Allen passed for 342 yards on 22 of 37 plays overall in the Bills’ defeat. On ten carries, he gained 82 rushing yards. Although the Rams won the game at home by a score of 44–42, it was difficult to ignore the fact that Allen was used in every single Bills scoring attempt.

No matter who prevailed in the end, Allen had every reason to win that game, even if most people would have found plenty of amusement in such a high-scoring contest. Naturally, Allen plays every game to win, but with the Chiefs at 12-1 and the Bills at 10-2 going into the last game, Allen had a chance to lead Buffalo to the AFC’s top overall seed.

For Allen, that is important. If he guides Buffalo to the top seed in the AFC playoffs, he will receive a $2.5 million incentive as part of his contract, which was revised this year. It is now nearly impossible for the Bills to make up two games in the standings after their tough loss to the Chargers on Sunday.

Josh Allen Likely Lost $2.5 Million With Bills' Week 14 Loss - Athlon Sports

During his appearance on “The Spotrac Podcast,” NFL contract expert Mike Ginnitti explained the situation:

“This year, he is earning $60 million in cash. That puts them behind a few players who received enormous signing bonuses and puts them in third or fourth place in the league. MVP incentives, which are currently looking amazing, come with a $1.5 million bonus. If the Bills were the top seed, he could have earned an additional $2.5 million, but that appears to be evaporating following yesterday’s defeat.
