The leap that Miami Heat supporters have been anticipating for the past few years has finally been accomplished by Tyler Herro. He has been the team’s top player thus far this season and has been better in almost every aspect of his game.
Herro now appears capable of playing a key role in the Heat’s backcourt for many years to come. Terry Rozier is not in the same boat.
Herro and Rozier were supposed to be in the backcourt. However, although the former has performed admirably, the latter has recently failed to live up to expectations and has been left out of the starting five.
Through 20 games this season, Rozier has averaged 12.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists for the Heat.
As a result, it could be worth considering including Rozier in a trade package to bring in a new point guard to pair with Herro in the backcourt.
Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz suggests a trade where the Sacramento Kings would receive Rozier, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Nikola Jovic, Kel’el Ware, and an unprotected 2030 first-round pick in exchange for De’Aaron Fox.
Swartz explained, “A starting lineup featuring Fox, Tyler Herro, Jimmy Butler, Haywood Highsmith, and Bam Adebayo, supported by a bench including Duncan Robinson, Kevin Love, Alec Burks, Pelle Larsson, Josh Richardson, and others, would position the Heat as a top contender in the East again.”
There are still questions about Fox’s future with the Kings. Last summer, he reportedly declined a three-year, $165 million extension.
In such a trade, the Heat would be bidding farewell to most of their depth. Jaquez would most likely be the biggest loser.
One player whose fortunes have drastically changed during the season is Jovic. He was formerly a starter for the Heat, but now he is not even in the rotation.
When the Heat selected Ware in this year’s draft, there were high expectations. Although he was thought to be the answer to the team’s size problems, the rookie has hardly played this season.
