Darian Mensah is off the transfer portal
The bowl game Florida Football will play in this year has been formally announced. The Tulane Green Wave, who lost to Army in the AAC championship game over the weekend, will face the Gators in the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa.
Although Florida seems to have its full complement of players, Tulane recently announced a major member of their roster will hit the transfer portal. As is the case with many bowl games, don’t expect rosters to be at full strength.
Florida Football: Portal season
Last year, Darian Mensah, a two-star quarterback in the class of 2023, redshirted. With 2,723 yards of throwing, 22 touchdowns, and just six interceptions, he took over as the starting quarterback this season and finished with a 65.9% completion rate.
Before starting on a run in the AAC that had them in the running to be among the top five conference champions and, if they could win out, a chance at the playoffs, Tulane dropped tight games to Kansas State and Oklahoma. However, Tulane ended the season 9-4 after losing to Memphis in the regular season finale and then to Army in the AAC title game.
Mensah is choosing to use the transfer portal prior to their bowl matchup with Florida, according to reports from ESPN’s Pete Thamel and others. If that’s the case, it’s anticipated he won’t participate in the bowl. However, Florida did had Emory Jones play in the 2022 Gasparilla Bowl despite his announcement that he was entering the portal.
Ty Thompson, a former top 50 overall talent who signed with Oregon but hasn’t played much in college, is Tulane’s backup.
Raymond James Stadium will host Florida vs. Tulane on December 20 at 3:30 PM.
