The season hasn’t ended the way Ohio State Buckeyes players and supporters had hoped, and on Sunday, December 8, the bad news kept coming in. Ohio State suffered its second defeat of the season and was eliminated from the Big Ten Championship Game as the Buckeyes fell to the rival Michigan Wolverines at home in the year’s last regular season game.
The only other team to defeat OSU this season, the Oregon Ducks, defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions in that championship game to earn the top overall seed and a first-round bye in the College Football Playoffs.
Devin Brown, the backup quarterback for the Buckeyes, then declared on Sunday that he would be leaving the school and via the transfer portal when the 2024 season ended.
ESPN Sources: No. 1 QB Stuns Ohio State with Unexpected Decommitment, Commits to Geo. According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Devin Brown, Ohio State’s quarterback and a top-45 recruit in the 2022 class, has announced via X that he is entering the transfer portal. However, he plans to remain with the Buckeyes until the end of the season.
This year, Brown served as the backup quarterback to Will Howard. Despite appearing in six games, he attempted just 19 passes, completing 10 for 108 yards and one touchdown.
Following Kyle McCord’s departure to Syracuse after last season, Brown becomes the second prominent quarterback to transfer from Ohio State in as many years.
During Syracuse’s three-loss season, McCord threw for 4,326 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. It may be argued that he had a stronger season than Howard, who led the Buckeyes to two losses with 2,860 yards, 27 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
However, Syracuse is not included in the 12-team field, and OSU, the No. 8 seed in the CFP, will face Tennessee on December 21 for a first-round match.
